In our Presbyterian worship tradition, the reading of a biblical text is usually followed by the reader’s declaration: “The Word of the Lord”, and the congregation responds with: “Thanks be to God”. This four week series taught by Manfred Brauch, Former President and Professor of Biblical Theology at Eastern Baptist (now Palmer) Theological Seminary, addresses this question: “How do we understand the declaration that every biblical text read in worship is “the Word of the Lord” for which we give thanks to God? Are all texts (or entire books) in the Bible to be understood as equally inspired and therefore authoritative for Christian life and faith? What does our praxis – how we apply Biblical texts/teachings/imperatives to our living – reveal about what we mean when we declare that the Bible is “Word of the Lord”? Click here to register. Click here to view handouts.
