Come enjoy an evening of music with Joy Ike in Westminster's sanctuary! There will be a free-will offering at the event. All seating is general admission. Polished and precise, yet buoyed with an airy grace, on Bigger Than Your Box Joy Ike paints with a broad palette that defies easy categorization. The Nigerian-American, Philadelphia, PA-based artist crafts music at turns soaring and plaintive, draped around a voice all dusky suede. Fiery, free, and immediately arresting, Ike possesses a powerful instrument which she wields with humble virtuosity. As warm and beautiful as the lovely tape hiss on an old jazz record, Bigger Than Your Box leaves the listener uplifted, perhaps a little teary-eyed, and very much satisfied. joyike.com

Presbyterians, particularly those associated with Princeton Seminary, played a key role in national debates about slavery and race before the Civil War, and helped establish the American Colonization Society and the country of Liberia as a way to solve America's problems with slavery and race. After the Civil War, Presbyterian struggles with the many afterlives of slavery took various forms and continue into the present. These sessions led by Rev. Dr. Gordon Mikoski will dig into Presbyterian imagination around issues of slavery and race in the past, in the present, and the future.
