Nonprofit Partner: Kennett Area Community Service

As a leading life-sustaining organization, Kennett Area Community Service (KACS) provides food and emergency assistance to residents in Southern Chester County’s Avon Grove, Kennett Consolidated, and Unionville-Chadds Ford school districts. Before the pandemic, KACS provided up to a seven-day supply of food to approximately 550 registered households each month. Food donations accounted for 90% of the food KACS distributed.
Since March, the Food Cupboard has served over 8,454 individuals and continues to provide meat, dairy, produce, and non-perishables to our families. COVID-19 precipitated a complete change in Food Cupboard operations. We suspended our volunteer program due to safety concerns and began purchasing all non-perishables when grocery store donations ended. Despite these adjustments, we have continued to serve our community---including 500 senior citizens, more than 2,000 children, and an additional 900 households who had never requested KACS services prior to March.
The KACS Emergency Assistance program has provided over $373,235 in rent, mortgage, utility, and other emergency payments to help those impacted by COVID-19’s devastating economic fallout. We continue our work with individuals and families to both prevent homelessness and assist those who are currently experiencing homelessness. In just four months during the COVID-19 crisis, KACS re-housed ten families into permanent housing. Click here to support KACS's work.
