Westminster Builds Another Habitat House

Westminster is building its sixth Habitat for Humanity house on the east side of West Chester.  We are providing all the funds for construction of the house and all the volunteers to build it.  Construction will start this summer and take about nine months.  The house is a twin so we’ll work side by side with volunteers building the other side.  We’ll also work with prospective homeowners doing “sweat equity”.

The work site is on E. Barnard, one block west of Bolmar.  See map for details.

Construction is underway.  Framing is the first step, including window and door installation, and usually takes two months.  Siding and electrical work is next.

How to get involved

Construction will take place Wednesday through Saturday with Saturday the “big day”.  We need volunteers any of those days, but especially on Saturdays.  No experience is needed; experienced Westminster crew chiefs and a Habitat foremen will be on hand.  If you are interested in signing up or learning more about the project, contact Burt Rothenberger.  Burt will put you on an email list and keep you posted on what type of work is planned for each week and other news about the project.

When you want to come out and join our work crew, just send Burt an email on Monday letting him know you plan to show up that week. The number of volunteers needed on a particular day does vary, so we do need a rough idea of how many people will be there.

Volunteers must be 16 or over and those under 18 will need parental consent.  All volunteers must sign a Release and Waiver of Liability.

Construction not your thing?  Our Saturday work crews need lunches!  Sign up to provide a lunch for our Westminster work crew, usually about 10 people.  Contact Abbie Pennington for more information or to sign up.
