Discovering Your Gifts - Putting Them To Work
A Spiritual Gifts Assessment

Why this is a valuable tool for your Spiritual Journey!

Every follower of Jesus is called by God and gifted for ministry.
Discovering the way that God has gifted you is the first step in discerning the call of God on your life.

"In my own case, the discovery of gifts has clarified the ministry to which God has called me and opened new vistas of service. When I identified and named my spiritual gifts, it seemed as if all the contradictory pieces in my life suddenly fell into place. I found the key to what God was doing in and through my life."

Howard Snyder - The Problem of Wineskins

Putting your gifts to work in service will lead to growth, purpose and satisfaction in your life. Putting your gifts to work in service will lead to growth, mission and unity in the church. As each member ministers through their God given gifts, the church is built up, and empowered to be God’s sent people. Sent to bless God, each other, and the world.

What is a Spiritual Gift?

Spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit to a follower of Jesus Christ in order to demonstrate God's love to others. They are Spiritual because they come from the Holy Spirit… They are a gift because they are “grace” based. We do not choose them nor deserve them. Yet God freely gives them. Sometimes these gifts are displayed in very dramatic ways. But most often, they can be seen in the quiet efforts of Christians serving each other and the world.

"All these (Spiritual gifts) are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses."
1 Corinthians 12:11

"Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received."
1 Peter 4:10

"So with yourselves; since you are eager for spiritual gifts, strive to excel in them for building up the church."
1 Corinthians 14:12

When it comes to serving God one size does not fit all. At Westminster we are committed to working with people to help them discover their God given gifts, passions, and the places they would like to get involved. The Shape profile is a reflective way of thinking about how God has been at work in your life and how that informs what you would like to do in service. Take some time and fill it out. This is for your use alone, although you can choose to share it with Jennie Clark if you would like.  Perhaps God has given you a vision for a type of ministry that is not presently happening at Westminster. If that is the case, we would love to partner with you in making that happen. We believe deeply that God orchestrates the church, giving us all gifts that are needed to do ministry together. You are an important part of that.

Instructions for taking the assessment:

This is not a test. There are no right or wrong answers. Each question has 4 possible responses: "Never", "Sometimes", "Often", "Always". Choose the response that is most true of you and your life. Make sure to resist the temptation to check what you wish you were like. Sometimes your responses will be based on what you think about yourself and sometimes they will be based on what others have affirmed in you. One of the great realities of Spiritual Gifts is that they are affirmed in the community of believers… so thinking about what others say is a good way to check yourself.

BEFORE YOU START: Stop for a moment. Pray and take a breath.
